What is Ritalin 10mg used for?
Ritalin 10mg works in the treatment of ADHD by increasing attention and decreasing restlessness in children and adults who are overactive, cannot concentrate for very long or are easily distracted and impulsive.
Ritalin 10mg may improve focus, and decrease impulsivity and hyperactive behavior, two hallmark symptoms in some patients with the condition. It contains the same active ingredient as medications like Aptensio and Daytrana.
Side effects Ritalin 10mg.
The following are discussed in more detail in other sections of the labelling:
- Abuse and Dependence,
- Known hypersensitivity to methylphenidate or other ingredients of Ritalin and Ritalin-SR
- Hypertensive crisis with Concomitant Use of Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
- Serious Cardiovascular Reactions
- Blood Pressure and Heart Rate Increases
- Psychiatric Adverse Reactions
- Priapism
- Peripheral Vasculopathy, including Raynaud’s Phenomenon
- Long-term Suppression of Growth
The following adverse reactions associated with the use of all Ritalin 10mg, Ritalin-SR, and other methylphenidate products were identified in clinical trials, spontaneous reports, and literature. Because these reactions were reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to estimate their frequency reliably or to establish a causal relationship to drug exposure.
Dosage
ADHD
According to the manufacturer’s leaflet, children aged 6 years and older can start on a dose of 5 mg, twice daily, of immediate-release Ritalin. A doctor may increase the dose by 5 mg or 10 mg every week until they achieve the desired effect.
The average dose for adults is between 20 mg and 30 mg.
Doctors may switch people from immediate-release tablets to extended-release tablets. This allows the person to take fewer doses per day but still get the same effect from the medication.
A person can wear a Daytrana patch on the skin for a maximum of 9 hours. The starting dose is usually 10 mg, although some people may need a higher dose.
The maximum dose of Ritalin 10mg for both children and adults is 60 mg per day.
Narcolepsy
Ritalin is a second-line option for the treatment of narcolepsy. Doctors may prescribe Ritalin for people with narcolepsy if other drug options have been unsuccessful.
Typical doses of Ritalin for narcolepsy are between 5 and 10 mg. Consult our stock.
